OK-Slip-Falls-Event-3Protect the Adirondacks is excited to invite you to a fun event — the 2015 Forever Wild Benefit — featuring a guided hike to the top of OK Slip Falls and then a raft trip through the lower reaches of the Hudson River Gorge. The event will be guided by the professional guide team at Square Eddy Expeditions and will be a joy for people of all ages.

This is a great way to check out the highlights of New York’s newest Wilderness Area.

Participation in this event is $250 per person. This includes the guided hike, raft trip on the Hudson River, lunch, and a reception afterwards. Register today (sign up below) as we’re limited to 24 passengers for this event.

The event starts at the Square Eddy Expeditions headquarters on Main Street in North Creek at 8:30 AM on Sunday August 16th. People will select what equipment they want for the raft trip, which will be brought in separately by the Square Eddy team. From there we’ll drive to Square Eddy lands that border the new Hudson Gorge Wilderness area and start a moderate 3-mile hike to the top of OK Slip Falls. We’ll take our time on the hike and have a snack at the top of the falls. After that we’ll descend to a beach on the Hudson River below OK Slip Falls and have lunch and get ready for the raft trip.

After lunch, we’ll start a 2-hour paddle in Square Eddy rafts down the lower reaches of the Hudson Gorge. While there are a series of rapids and whitewater, the biggest rapids are further upriver. The Hudson Gorge is beautiful in August with high ledges, tall cedar trees, and dramatic rocky river banks. This will be a terrific trip.
