Public Navigation Rights in New York State: What are they?

Public Navigation The Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks has issued a slim, easily read and informative fifteen-page brochure about the common law right of public travel on New York's freshwater rivers, streams, lakes and other waterways that are navigable-in-fact.

The questions and answers are designed to illuminate the legal nature of this right and to provide information about the circumstances under which it may be exercised.

This educational project is part of the Community Conservation program of the Association who thanks the American Conservation Association for its support of the printing of this brochure.

It is derived from a longer paper on this subject.

Forest Preserve

Forest PreserveProtecting the Forest Preserve and adhering to its "forever wild" mandate requires conservation and legal knowledge plus persistence, money and, above all, vigilance. The AFPA has been at the forefront of this important and public-spirited work for 107 years. This paper describes three examples of ongoing violations of the Forest Preserve that the AFPA currently is attempting to resolve. They concern Moreau Lake State Park, the Tahawus railroad and Indian Lake dam and the Indian River.
