A Summer Storytelling Family Program an AFPA collaboration with “Story Circle* of the Capital District” and Niskayuna’s Continuing & Community Education Program.
You are invited to join four of the best regional and local storytellers in a new summer series taking place at the at The Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks (AFPA) new outdoor Catskill Bluestone Amphitheater at The Center for the Forest Preserve, 897 St. David’s Lane, Niskayuna,NY.
Storytelling is more than just entertainment. It is a way to teach; to share life; to create and maintain connections to history. Each of our performers has a unique interest and passion for which they are highly respected including: Schenectady History; traditional and contemporary Native American music and storytelling; stories of faith and hope; and folk tales extraordinaire.
The series is open to members of “Story Sundays”, the general public (free will donation) and to Niskayuna Continuing Education registrants who, in addition to the performance, have the opportunity for a group learning session with the storyteller before the performance. This takes place during a (bring your own) picnic supper with the artist. Bring a sandwich and drink at 5:30 PM for a workshop/conversation with the storyteller; brief overview of how stories are “harvested”, framed/prepared for performance, and general roundtable on Storytelling.
Please note: Registration is required for the Supper Class via Niskayuna Continuing Education. Class size is limited, so register early!
