Managing the Forest Preserve for Wilderness Stewardship and Ecological Integrity
The Association works to protect, preserve and properly sustain through wise stewardship the wilderness character and ecological integrity of the entire New York State Forest Preserve. Present activities under this program include:
- Defending and Extending the Principles of "Forever Wild"
- Advocates for Wilderness Stewardship
- Wildland Studies and Partnerships: Linkages with the Adirondacks: the Northern Forest, A2A, Two Countries: One Forest
- Discover the Adirondacks All Taxa Biological Inventory
The Association works to conserve the productivity and the wild, natural and pastoral character of the private farms and forests of the Adirondacks. Present activities within this program include:
Studies and Critiques of Upland Development
- Active participation and monitoring of projects before the Adirondack Park Agency
- Reforming Conservation Easements
- Linking private lands and the Forest Preserve
- Information about Public Rights and Responsibilities on Navigable Rivers
The Association works to enhance the well-being of local communities and economies. Present activities within this program include:
- "Energy Smart" Adirondack Park
- Discover the Adirondacks: All Taxa Biological Inventory
- Annual Adirondack-focused lectures, workshops and conferences
- "Education for Action" at the Center for the Forest Preserve
- The Adirondack Research Library: Accessible, Useful for all Adirondack research
