Overview

PROTECT is a dedicated grassroots volunteer advocacy organization committed to protecting the Adirondack Park. Your continued financial support is critical to our present and future success. While we have added new members and receive continued support from foundations, we need additional funding to keep our membership informed and our programs operational. Our programs promote sustainable forestry, help Adirondack lakes keep free of invasive species, and our Adirondack Legal Defense Fund protects the Forest Preserve and private forest lands.

We have two legal matters pending; the Adirondack Club and Resort (ACR) hearings and Low’s Lake litigation. We ask you to consider a gift at this time to help us match funds from the Prospect Hill Foundation who supports these efforts.

We need to insure that, if a permit is issued for the massive ACR, the town of Tupper Lake will not be financially burdened, that environmental concerns are met and that the development will not despoil the wilderness character of adjoining forest preserve lands.

Regarding Low’s Lake, Judge Lynch helped our position by denying the state’s request to dismiss the lawsuit brought by Protect and the Adirondack Mountain Club against the APA and DEC because APA has failed to classify state-owned water bodies that are part of the Forest Preserve. We must now pursue this litigation on its underlying merits.

It’s a busy agenda, but with your help we can continue to protect, steward and sustain the natural environment and human communities of the Adirondack Park and the New York State Forest Preserve for current and future generations.
