Advocates for
Wilderness Stewardship
Working to ensure the preservation and stewardship of the Forest Preserve through:
- monitoring of Unit Management Plans (UMPs),
- challenging inappropriate and illegal management decisions,
- hands-on stewardship,
- partnering with State Land Managers to address management challenges,
- Roadside Camping White Paper (PDF 8.9MB)
- and education about the Forest Preserve.
What makes us different?
The Association's Advocates for Wilderness Stewardship is the only non-profit advocacy program in NY State that has- a dedicated staff member living in the park,
- whose principal responsibility is to the protection and stewardship of the nearly 2.5 million acres of state owned land in the park, and
- utilizes advocacy and education to accomplish its goals.
The Association is the only organization that can claim a hundred plus years of work to preserve the Adirondack Park.
