A celebration to support Protect the Adirondacks in honor of long-time activist and environmental leader Charlie Morrison (1928-2024).
This event features an optional walk on the Spring Run Trail in Saratoga Springs at 10:30 AM on Saturday May 11th and light snacks and drinks at the Mouzon House from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM in Saratoga Springs with remembrances of Charlie’s environmental work in Saratoga and the Adirondack Park.
Proceeds will benefit the work of Protect the Adirondacks to defend and strengthen protections for the “Forever Wild” Forest Preserve in the Adirondacks.
Please join us on Saturday May 11th for a benefit for Protect the Adirondacks and a celebration of Charlie Morrison (1928-2024), who was a Founding Director of Protect the Adirondacks as well as a long-time activist and environmental leader in the Saratoga Springs community. This event features a walk on the Spring Run Trail in Saratoga Springs, which Charlie helped put together, starting at the East Avenue Parking Area entrance at 10:30 AM. The main event will be light snacks and drinks (cash bar) at the historic Mouzon House restaurant at 1 York Street from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. This will be a fun day to celebrate Charlie’s life of action, advocacy, and caring about community, while helping to support and learning more about the work of Protect the Adirondacks. Tickets are $50.

For nearly 60 years Charlie Morrison was a dedicated and enthusiastic activist on a wide variety of environmental and community enhancement projects in Saratoga Springs and the Adirondack Park. He volunteered his time, passion, and energy to the City of Saratoga Open Space Commission, the development of the Spring Run Trail, Sustainable Saratoga, Pitney Community Farm, the waterfront park, and with the Democratic Party. Charlie was a prolific letter-writer and voice for environmental protections and improving the quality of life in Saratoga Springs. His long career in environmental management at the Department of Environmental Conservation led him to work to help build environmental advocacy efforts with the Sierra Club Atlantic Chapter and The Environmental Planning Lobby, which is now called Environmental Advocates.
Protect the Adirondacks
Charlie Morrison was a founding member of the Board of Directors of Protect the Adirondacks where he focused on the protection of the “Forever Wild” Forest Preserve. Protect the Adirondacks is a grassroots environmental advocacy group dedicated to the preservation and stewardship of the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park. Our mission is to protect the Adirondack Park’s wild character for current and future generations. We pursue this mission through advocacy, grassroots organizing, independent public oversight, research, education, and legal action. PROTECT manages the largest water quality monitoring program in the Adirondacks in partnership with the Paul Smith’s College Adirondack Watershed Institute, publishes reports, defends the Forest Preserve, and monitors land development.

The Mouzon House
The Mouzon House is a long-standing restaurant in Saratoga Springs founded and operated by Dianne and David Pedinotti in 2005. It’s a cultural landmark for the the area. The Mouzon House dates back to the late 19th century. The house has a storied past with owners who were part of the racial and ethnic diversity of Saratoga Springs. The Mouzon family owned the house for two generations and Mia Mouzon was the first American-born woman of color to graduate from Skidmore School of the Arts in 1947. The Mouzon House has been the center of various clashes over urban renewal and development in the York Street neighborhood of Saratoga Springs. Today, the Mouzon House is one of Saratoga’s finest restaurants.
The cost is $50 for individuals and $250 for the Host Committee.
